(MQF L7) Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

This online PGCE programme is an intensive, comprehensive course designed to provide educators with a robust understanding of modern pedagogical practices within a European context. Comprising ten interconnected modules, it covers European pedagogical frameworks, cross-cultural curriculum development, technology-enhanced pedagogy, inclusive education, instructional strategies, classroom management, professional ethics, research methods, career counselling, and AI in education. It is particularly suitable for those who aspire to work in education settings within the EU and EEA.

This is a programme submitted for accreditation with the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) — application dated 1st December 2025. European College of Innovation (ECI) is a licensed provider. This qualification does not constitute a regulated teacher training programme and does not confer a professional teaching licence.

Assessment combines formative (feedback-based, ungraded but mandatory) and summative (graded) methods for each module.

• Formative assessment: online discussions via VLE forums or blogs, group work activities, draft academic essays (~1,000 words), and a preparatory PowerPoint presentation (10 minutes). Completion is mandatory to progress toward summative assessment, though it does not contribute to the final grade.
• Summative assessment: Coursework/short assignments — a short academic essay of ~500 words (10%); Research papers/essays — an academic essay or research paper of ~2,000 words (50%); Presentation/case study — a recorded 10-minute oral presentation or case study analysis (40%). Total 100%.

Minimum pass mark: 50%, required in the overall summative assessment per module. Learners who don’t achieve the pass mark may be eligible for one reassessment (resubmission of the failed assignment, or a new equivalent assessment); the maximum grade achievable after reassessment is capped at the pass mark. Learners who fail reassessment must repeat the module or follow institutional progression regulations.

Grading scale: A (Excellent) 70–100%; B (Good) 60–69%; C (Satisfactory) 50–59%; F (Fail) 0–49%.

Tutors/lecturers should normally hold an MQF Level 7 (Master’s) qualification or higher in Education, Pedagogy, or a related field, with 3–5 years’ relevant teaching experience, subject-specific expertise, strong digital literacy, and English proficiency sufficient to deliver lectures and provide academic feedback.

In order to be eligible to follow this programme of study, learners should be in possession of the below:

• An MQF/EQF Level 6 Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a relevant field from a recognised higher education institution (applicants with degrees obtained outside Malta may need MQRIC recognition/comparability confirmation).
• For applicants whose previous studies were not conducted in English: an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher, or an equivalent recognised English-language qualification.
• Prior teaching experience is not mandatory, though applicants with teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
• Basic digital literacy and comfort using digital tools, as parts of the course involve technology-enhanced pedagogy and digital research methods.
